the history of hitex
Hitex commenced operations in 1986, when it introduced the use of extruded polystyrene as a base for its plastering system.
In 1992 Hitex started developing the use of polymers to waterproof expanded polystyrene.
In 1994 the lamina process of applying a polymer waterproof coating reinforced with a strong fibreglass mesh was introduced to the surface of the polystyrene sheet in factory controlled conditions. This process ensures that site projects are completed quicker, are more waterproof, have greater flexibility and require less skilled labour.
In 1996 Hitex developed its Hitex Trade Practice to introduce trade standards for its plastering systems and products. Training and trade skills are valued at Hitex with considerable resources being applied to supporting, not only Hitex’s staff, but also Hitex Registered Applicators.
Sophisticated mouldings and columns incorporating the same technology were then developed. These decorative elements are all factory plastered to a high level of precision. Hitex plastered letterboxes, fences, planter boxes and vents have all since been added to the range of products available.
Hitex continues to develop new products that builders find are essential for their everyday work.
Hitex has always prided itself in the use of window flashings and waterproof tanking (to parapet tops and other horizontal surfaces). Correct detailing has always been paramount to ensure good trade practice including proper ground clearances at terminations. The Hitex system does do not rely on externally applied paint to keep water out due to its unique pre-coated polystyrene sheets.
Hitex is committed to ongoing research and development and systems innovation. With this philosophy as our driving force, Hitex has devoted considerable energy through 2002 and 2003 into cavity systems and a comprehensive testing program through the Physics Department at the University of Auckland.
The resultant Hitex Diamond Cavity System provides a sound solution to the current weather tightness issues when used in conjunction with treated timber, full undersill trays and Hitex Trade Practice.
